The Project

The Hebrew Free Burial Association devotes its resources to performing chesed shel emet (the ultimate act of loving kindness) by providing funeral and burial services for the indigent. It is dedicated to assuring that every Jew, regardless of financial means or religious affiliation, receives a dignified, traditional Jewish funeral and burial. The association also receives solicited and unsolicited donations from donors and foundations.

The Solution

The HFBA hired Sidian Consulting to provide a "total package" for their organization. Cabling, network infrastructure and all new hardware were commissioned. In addition, their existing management application, which was written in DOS, was decommissioned and a custom, browser-based intranet application was put in its place. We migrated the existing data from two legacy systems that were in use into a SQL Server 2000 database. ColdFusion MX was the language chosen to write the application in, as well as ActivePDF for document conversion and manipulation. The application provides a full suite of burial and donor tracking, accounting, letter and statement generation, mailing list manager, digital document management, and more. Remote access is available through a Virtual Private Network to application users outside the office, whether telecommuting or for emergency purposes, as well as to the Association's cemetery for performing decedent lookups and daily reports.

The Results

One central, state-of-the-art system, accessible to the Association users anywhere and any time with all new equipment, network and high-speed internet connection to maximize workflow and minimize time spent.
